I’ve seen this project idea floating around Pinterest for quite some time, and finally decided it was time that the kids and I give it a try. Rainy Sundays always make for great project days!
This is a wonderful DIY project for your kids to help you with. It is simply just a jar full of water, glitter and glue that when mixed together results in a calming get-a-way for your kids (or you too ) in place of a time-out. Send them to a quiet place with their jar, and have them turn the jar and watch the glitter until it all settles on the bottom. If it all falls and they still aren’t feeling happy or calm, have them repeat until they do. If you have destructive children, do not give them a glass jar or it may end up as glitter on your wall. 😉 Calming jars aren’t just for kids, go ahead and make an extra one for yourself , down time is important for everyone-of all ages!
How to make a Calming Jar
- Jar (Canning jars work best, but you may also use a plastic container if you fear your child may break the jar)
- Glitter glue
- HOT water
- Food coloring (if desired. I only used food coloring in the red jar pictured in the background at the top of the page)
- Add hot water into the jar, filling it almost completely full. I microwaved the water for about 2.5 minutes in the jar.
- Add 2 tubes of glitter glue
3.)Add glitter (as much as desired , we used 1 full container, as pictured)
My kids loved watching the glitter glue in the jar , before we shook it up-they said it looked like sparkling worms!
